Artist Statement:

Authentic art delves beneath the surface of a canvas and extends far beyond a paintbrush, oozing with dripping paint. As a figurative artist, I strive to immerse myself in the fabric of my work, bringing a visual story while breathing character, emotion, and authenticity into the inanimate figures I create. My art showcases spirited images inspired by ethnic culture, genuine emotion, and real life.

Artist Biography

I am J Yvonne AKA "Whatshername", a figurative artist. I relocated to North Carolina after retiring from the New Jersey public school system. My interest in oil painting began in my teenage years and continues to thrive here in Greensboro, where I've received several honors, including completing a commissioned oil painting, “Sweet Magnolia,” for "Creative Greensboro" and the City Arts Council. A reproduction of my “Duke Ellington” painting hangs on display at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. I have created cover art for the New Jersey-based magazine "In the Spotlight," and my oil painting, “Rosie and the Rock-Creek Riders,” was showcased at the Nicolet College Art Gallery in Wisconsin during their Annual Northern National Art Competition.
